A Joy-Less View

Say it ain’t so!

The final original cast member of morning girl-gab-fest The View, Joy Behar, has decided to leave the show after 16 and a half seasons.

She will remain on the show until August.

“It seemed like the right time,” she said in a statement to Deadline, which broke the news. “You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do.”

The 70-year-old mentioned that she wanted to get back into her stand-up, which she feels she’s been “neglecting” due to her View duties as well as talk shows on HLN and the now Al-Jazerra owned Current TV — which will end completely once the full takeover comes.

“I have a lot of friends there [at ABC], and I will miss everyone I’ve worked with because we have a family there,” she continued.  “It is a smart talk show because somebody of her stature is leading the conversation; Barbara [Walters] was one of the main reasons I took that job.”

Rumor has it that it’s not going to be the only change: the show is said to be headed for a “reboot” of sorts for season 17 — with the possibility of Walters and Elizabeth Hasselbeck also exiting.

ABC also released a statement praising Behar and saying she was “instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season.”

Onto bigger and better things!
