An Ignored Voice

JoJoInstagram

Back in the early 2000′s, a young singer by the name of JoJo blew the minds of music lovers everywhere with her amazing and powerful voice that somehow packed into the body of a 13 year old.

She had a couple of great singles under her belt over the next few years (such as “Leave (Get Out)”, “Baby It’s You” and “Too Little, Too Late”), but was never pushed as far as her fellow pop contemporaries and the recording of her third album went through massive changes before being shelved three times.

What many don’t realize is that the amazing performer, born Joanna Levesque, is now 22 years old and has continuously released some of the most amazing songs that you’re probably not even listening to.

Check out the track “Andre” from her second mixtape Agápē (the Greek word for “unconditional love” — as well as the name of her puppy), which was released back in December.

The smooth groove of a song was inspired by one of music’s most understated, yet amazing talents: Outkast’s own Andre 3000.

“Andre’s style is something that I love”, the young beauty said in a recent interview. “I just think the sexiest thing is when a man is himself and does his own thing, and there’s a really great example of that in André Benjamin.”

Don’t worry, y’all; it’s not like she’s dating the guy — but there’s nothing wrong with using someone like that for inspiration.

Check out a live version of “Andre” after the jump. If you’re interested, you can download Agápē for free (yes, it’s a free legal download) here.
