The “Blade Runner” Murder Case: I Didn’t Mean It!

Golden League Golden Gala 2007 - Athletic Events

Well, I guess everyone can go home — it was just an accident!

Olympian Oscar Pistorius finally began to have his say in an South African court, expressing that he truly believed that he was shooting at intruder when he killed girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

He claimed (via a statement read by his lawyer) that he only realized it was the model when she wasn’t in his bed following the shooting and only reached for his gun because he felt “vulnerable” without his prosthetic legs attached while he slept.

“It filled me with horror and fear”, he expressed.

However, the prosecution and at this point, everyone else painted him out as wanting “to kill” Steenkamp, taking the time to attach the legs, walk to the bathroom and pump it full of bullets, leaving her bleeding to death.

He claims he did not have his prosthetic legs on when he fired.  He says he put his legs on, walked to the door and bashed it open with a cricket bat and discovered Steenkamp mortally wounded.  He says he carried her downstairs and “She died in my arms.”

The prosecutors scoffed, saying Pistorius and Steenkamp had just finished a shouting match when he fired 4 shots into the bathroom, hitting Steenkamp 3 times.

Lawyers also shared images of a timeline for what they believed transpired that early Valentine’s day morning as well as the six weapons that were licensed to him, including 2 Smith & Wessons, three shotguns and an semi-automatic rifle.
